Part one
We jump to Italian Front during World War I and meet Frederic Henry and his good friend Rinaldi, an Italian surgeon and all around womanizer.

Part two
The love between Frederic and Catherine blossums while many are disapproving of the immoral relationship (they aren't married and Catherine's fiance died in the battle of Sommes).

Part three
Frederic gets wounded badly at the front and is then sent to Milan to recouperate. The same hospital where Catherine was sent to. Slowly but surely, Frederic recovers and then... gets shipped back to the front.
