At War with the Army
-
Description:
LikeTelevision proudly presents - At War with the Army, a terrific Martin & Lewis comedy classic about the craziness of being a soldier in the US Army. Jerry Lewis stars as pfc Alvin Korwin, who as you might expect, is a goofy nerd with a heart of gold. Meanwhile - Dean Martin plays First Sgt. Vic Puccinelli, a childhood friend of Korwin's, who is a callous womanizer, trying to dodge an airhead, former sweetheart named Millie... who is in trouble, i.e. pregnant. Jean Ruth is terrific in her role as Millie. The film also introduces Polly Bergen, who plays Helen - Vic's current girlfriend. They do a beautiful duet in an old style recording booth - where soldiers would send nifty audio messages to friends and family back home.

Despotism or Democracy?
-
Description:
LikeTelevision proudly presents - Despotism. Here's a question for you - Despotism or Democracy? Which society do you live in? The film was originally created by Encyclopedia Britanica shortly after World War II (1945). We edited the original and trimmed down the total length to make it more enjoyable, and of course, more ironic - given the current world situation, with some oppressive regimes all over the place - and the potential for concern regarding the Patriot Act in the USA. As such - while the original content is quite dated - the metrics used to measure the freedom in a society, remain very valid. Check it out - i think you'll enjoy it.

Escape from Sobibor
-
Description:
LikeTelevision proudly presents - Escape from Sobibor starring Alan Arkin, Joanna Pacula and Rutger Hauer. Sobibor was a Jewish concentration camp in World War II that was created for the sole purpose of exterminating as many Jewish people as quickly as possible - part of Hitler's notorious final solution, which called for eliminating the Jewish people from Europe. Most estimates believe that 260,000 people were killed in the Nazi gas chambers at Sobibor - making it a small sized operation compared to Auschwitz or Dachau. What makes Sobibor so noteworthy - the escape on October 14, 1943 when over 300 of the 600 Jewish prisoners escaped into the Polish death camp and lived to tell their story. The film does a remarkable job of telling the story of these determined heros - and heroines who refused to give into despair, and hoped in spite of a hopeless situation. The film was nominated for 5 Emmy Awards, and Won the Golden Globeaward n 1988 for Best Motion Picture made for TV. Excellent.

Forbidden Games (Jeux Interdits)
-
Description:
The LikeTelevision movie channel presents a terrific 1952 classic called Jeux interdits, which roughly translates into Forbidden Games, the English title. The movie is set in France at the start of World War II. Brigitte Fossey plays the young Paulette, a 5 year old orphan who loses her parents as the family flees from the Nazis who are attacking Paris. They get killed by a Messerschmitt that strafes a bridge filled with civilians. Paulette get adopted by a sweet peasant family, the Dolles and she becomes good friends with their young boy about 7 or 8 named Michel Dolle (Georges Poujouly). The film tells an amazing story of the war as seen through the eyes of some beautiful children who are paying a dear price for the troubles of the world. We highly recommend this movie. Two thumbs up.

I Like Ike - Presidential Campaign ad
-
Description:
LikeTelevision proudly presents - a wonderful blast from the past, from 1952 - the I Like Ike presidential campaign ad for Dwight D. Eisenhower, who served two terms (1953-1961) as President of the United States. This ad is a less than slick cartoon with some terrific caricatures. Ike was the 34th President and served as Supreme Commander for US troops on D-Day, the massive beach landing on the French coast that led to the end of World War II. He also served as head of NATO forces in 1951 before being aproached by Republican officials who urged him to run for President. During the Cold War, he worked hard to achieve peace during a time when the world was struggling with the terrors of Communism which were spreading fast and threatening democracies across the globe. He prosposed that the US and the Soviets exchange military information but was rebuffed. However meetings were held and the talks helped reduce tensions. Finally - we can also thank Ike for the US interstate highway system and the impact that had on our ability to travel as well as the positive economic consequences of increased interstate commerce. Yep - Dwight D. Eisenhower not only seemed like a decent fellow, I bet he was a good man too. The tone of this political ad from 50 years ago is in sharp contrast to the ads we suffer through today - and we hope that the people who make these ads gain some insight for future presidential campaign themes.

Secret Life of Adolf Hitler
-
Description:
A bizarre look at the life of Adolh Hitler - including interviews with Adolf's sister and loyal Nazis who were there during his last days in the Berlin bunker. Also discusses his relationship with Eva Braun - who is usually shown in a bathing suit doing gymnastics, because Hitler can't stand fat people, according to the narrator. So how the heck did an ex-con and unemployed house painter get to become the biggest tyrant in recent history? Don't let it happen again!

Walk in the Sun, A
-
Description:
LikeTelevision proudly presents - A Walk in the Sun starring Dana Andrews, Lloyd Bridges, Sterling Holloway, John Ireland and Richard Conte. This classic World War II film made in 1945 examines the minds of a small group of soldiers as the embark on a mission to blow up a bridge in the Italian country. It begins at sea just before the land on the beach which is pretty well defended by the Nazis. The movie is mostly about what the men are thinking as they are on the mission and the conversations they have. It is about how they keep sane while everything around them in just plain crazy.
